My name is Kate O’Reilly (Martin) a proud Dubliner and young at heart 40 something creative. I am mum to two cracking kids and wife to my super husband, Gavin. I studied Visual Communications at the National College of Art and Design in Dublin and graduated with first class honours. After lots of travel in my 20s, living and working in New York, Edinburgh, I then took post graduate study in Brighton and Kent. I now call amazing Adelaide, South Australia my home from home. I work as a visual arts teacher in a girls secondary school in the city and love sharing my passion for the arts with my students.

Art and Design take up much of my spare time, particularly painting, print making, graphic illustration, and all things visually inspiring. You could say I am an arts and culture fanatic and regularly attend exhibitions, music events, theatre, cinema and stand up comedy.

Adelaide is a hidden gem of a city, punching well above its weight for the performing and creative arts. On my doorstep, the stunning coastline, surrounding hills and wine regions continuously inspire my work, as well as my travels further afield and back home in Ireland. I love outdoor activities and I am a keen stand up paddle boarder, hill walker and my family and I spend most of our holidays camping by water. I find the celebration of nature and the idea of interdependent relationship and preservation of our natural world a key focus in my work.

Abstract expressionism and particularly Mark Rothko are a key influence on my colour application. Other major artistic influences are Wassily Kandinsky and David Hockney for their use of dynamic compositions, playful use of shape and mark making. I am also forever in love with the sculptural work of Constantin Brâncuși.

If you have any questions about prints and commissions or about my art practice, please feel free to get in touch.
